Description
The Musa basjoo, also known as the Japanese banana plant, brings serious jungle vibes to your garden. With its huge leaves and fast growth, it's a tropical statement plant that can even handle cold winters!
Origin
This hardy banana species comes from China and Japan, where it grows in warm and humid conditions. It’s one of the few banana plants that can survive outdoors in Europe.
Care
Light
Loves full sun to partial shade. The more sun it gets, the faster it grows.
Water
Water regularly, especially during warm spells. Keep the soil moist, but make sure it drains well.
Cold tolerance
Musa basjoo is hardy down to around -5 °C. In winter, protect the base with mulch or fleece for extra insulation.
Note
The large leaves may develop natural splits from wind or their own weight. This is completely normal and nothing to worry about.
