The Cissus, also known as the Grape Ivy or Rattlesnake Vine, is a versatile houseplant admired for its elegant vines and climbing ability. Part of the grape family (Vitaceae), the Cissus originates from tropical and subtropical regions around the world. This plant is a true eye-catcher indoors and is wonderfully easy to care for.

Non-Toxic
Not air-purifying
Cissus thrives in a bright spot but avoids direct sunlight. Indirect light is ideal for keeping its leaves healthy and green. Place it near an east- or west-facing window. It also does well in partial shade, though low light might slow its growth.
Cissus has moderate watering needs. Water it about once a week, depending on the temperature and humidity. Ensure the soil stays lightly moist but not waterlogged. Let the top layer of soil dry out slightly before watering again. During winter, it requires less water.
During the growing season, from spring to autumn, feed your Cissus once a month with a general liquid fertiliser suitable for houseplants. In winter, the plant doesn’t need extra nutrients as its growth slows down.
Repot your Cissus every 2 to 3 years to provide fresh nutrients and more space for its roots. Choose a pot with good drainage and fresh, airy potting soil. The best time to repot is in spring, during its active growth phase.
Cissus thrives at temperatures between 18 and 24 degrees Celsius. Avoid drafts and sudden temperature changes, as the plant is sensitive to these.
Pruning isn’t essential but can help keep your Cissus compact and tidy. Trim back long vines if they grow too far or in a direction you don’t like. Remove any dead leaves or stems at any time to keep the plant healthy.
Cissus is a hardy plant and rarely suffers from pests. However, spider mites or aphids may occasionally appear. Regularly check the leaves and treat the plant with a natural pesticide if needed.
With its graceful growth and low-maintenance nature, the Cissus is a wonderful addition to any interior. Whether you let it climb or trail from a pot, this plant will undoubtedly bring a lively charm to your home!
