Meet the Campsis – an exotic climber with spectacular blooms
The Campsis, also known as the trumpet vine, is a fast-growing climber that transforms your balcony, patio, or garden into a colourful paradise. With its striking trumpet-shaped flowers in shades of orange, red, and yellow, it not only catches the eye but also attracts butterflies and bees. Thanks to its rapid growth and lush foliage, the Campsis is perfect for covering walls, fences, or pergolas.
The Campsis comes from North America and East Asia. It naturally thrives in sunny, warm climates, climbing along rocky surfaces and open woodlands. Its strong aerial roots allow it to cling effortlessly to surfaces, creating a beautiful natural covering.
The Campsis loves the sun and thrives best in a sunny to partly shaded spot. The more sunlight it gets, the better it blooms! Ideally, it should get at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
During the growing season (spring and summer), the Campsis needs regular watering, especially in hot weather. Keep the soil slightly moist but avoid waterlogging. In autumn and winter, reduce watering – only give water when the soil feels dry.
To encourage an abundance of flowers, feed your Campsis every two weeks during spring and summer with a fertiliser for flowering plants. No feeding is needed in autumn and winter when the plant is dormant.
Be aware that the Campsis can be mildly toxic to pets and humans. Its sap may cause skin irritation, and it’s best to keep it out of reach of curious pets and small children.
Some Campsis varieties can handle light frost, but in harsh winters, they need protection. If your plant is in a pot, move it to a sheltered spot or indoors when temperatures drop below -5°C.
Whether you're a gardening pro or just getting started, the Campsis is a fantastic choice. With its stunning blooms, fast growth, and easy care, it adds colour and character to your garden or balcony year after year.
Bring the tropical beauty of the Campsis into your home and enjoy a summer filled with colour and nature’s charm!
