The Ficus Carica, commonly known as the fig tree, is a charming and low-maintenance outdoor plant with a Mediterranean feel. Its large, hand-shaped leaves and delicious fruit make it a great choice for gardens and patios.
This tree originates from the Mediterranean, where it’s been grown for centuries for both its sweet figs and ornamental look.
Loves full sun. Place it somewhere with at least 6 hours of direct sunlight per day.
Water regularly during hot and dry periods, especially if it’s in a pot. Let the soil dry slightly between waterings.
Fig trees are easy-going and do well in typical outdoor air, even with low humidity.
Ficus Carica is fairly hardy and can tolerate down to around -10 °C. Protect young or potted trees during frost with fleece or move them to a sheltered spot.
The ripe fruit is edible, but the milky sap from stems and leaves can irritate the skin. It’s a good idea to wear gloves when pruning.
Whether for its fruit or its Mediterranean look, Ficus Carica brings a warm and stylish touch to any outdoor space.
